Update 12/6: Boeing was scheduled to start testing their newest aircraft today at the Myrtle Beach International Airport but the test has been postponed until tomorrow, November 7th.
Lauren Morris, spokesperson for Myrtle Beach Interational Airport, released this statement:
We’ve been given word this morning that the test flight for the 787 have been delayed 24 hours.
We do not and will not know the exact time that this will happen. We are going to do our very best to notify the public when we expect the flight to arrive at MYR. It will not be landing and parking. These are functional flight tests and we will have more tests in the future.
First Report 12/2: Boeing has selected the Myrtle Beach International Airport as a test site for their 787 aircraft.
On December 6th, Boeing will begin functional flight tests and aerial familiarization according to Myrtle Beach International Airport spokesperson, Lauren Morris. The news release also states, "MYR was selected at a test location due to our runway size, instrumentation, and other factors."
Local economic leaders have been making strides to break into the aviation industry with hopes of diversifying and strengthening our economy. The biggest symbol of this is the iTAP project. No doubt the red carpet will be rolled out for Boeing in the hopes of developing a lasting relationship.
The testing is most likely to prepare for final delivery on orders including an $11 billion dollar deal with Air India. The 787 is Boeing's response to the airline industry's need for a more efficient airliner. Boeing has experienced numerous production delays and has pushed back delivery deadlines on a few occasions as many aspects of the 787 push the boundaries of modern aircraft technology.
